Wrestlers Clobber Columbia, 35-3; Penalty Point Results in Only Loss

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An onslaught of determined Crimson wrestlers demolished Columbia, 35-3, on Saturday, in the team's final Ivy test before this Saturday's all-important Princeton meet.

Working off coach Bob Pickett's sixth consecutive different line-up. Andy Kopecki (123) began the barrage with a 19-4 slaughter of Bruce Kanze. Howie Henjyoji (130) followed him with a 1:54 pin of Jim Lu.

Unnecessary Roughness

The rest was monotonous. Jeff Grant (160) suffered the only Crimson loss when an unnecessary roughness penalty point cost him a 3-2 decision to Wayne Darling. That loss hurt Columbia anyway because in order to wrestle Darling at 160, the Lions had to forfeit their 152 match to Crimson captain Ed Franquemont.

Howie Freedman (191) and sophomore Bob Panoff (hvy.) closed the meet the way it began with successive pins at times of 4:56 and 3:19.

The other Harvard victories--of varying degree of severity--went to Danny Naylor (137). 13-7: Dave Stern (145), 8-0; Howie Chatterton (167), 4-0: and Paul Padlak (177), 3-2. (Padlak's narrow win came over Columbia's captain, Dave Morash, whose accomplishments include being ranked number one in the east as a sophomore two years ago.)
