Crimson Skaters Will Try Tonight For 3rd Victory

By Robert P. Marshall jr.

Harvard's high-flying hockey team will be trying for an early season sweep of its Beanpot opponents when it faces Boston College in McHugh Forum at 8:15 p.m. tonight. The Crimson skaters, victorious over Northeastern and Boston University in their first two outings, will be clashing with an Eagle squad also undefeated after an opening 5-4 win over Brown.

The narrowness of the B.C. victory, also in the Eagles' home rink, gives Harv-and hope of scoring its fifth straight decision at McHugh. Brown previously had been tied by Northeastern, a 9-1 victim of the Crimson.

But despite Harvard's string on B.C. ice, the last two encounters between the teams were crushing defeats for the Crimson. Last year at Watson Rink the Eagles dampened Harvard's early optimism with a come-from-behind, 4-3 win in overtime, then they repeated the deed over rejuvenated Harvard in the Beanpot Tournament, 6-5, also in overtime.

B.C. Minus Two

B.C. has lost its two top scorers from last winter: graduated captain Jerry York and Paul "the Shot" Hurley, who is trying out for the Olympic team.

But in their places are graduates of last year's freshman team, which also beat Harvard twice. Most spectacular of the crop is Tim Sheehy, who is centering on the first line for sophomore Kevin Ahearn and senior Gordie Clarke. Sheehy, an All-Everything from International Falls, Minn., who broke all the freshman scoring records, is the nephew of Bronco Nagurski. He hopes to play with the pros when he is finished at B.C.

Centering the second line is another sophomore, John Sullivan, and on his wings will be senior Whitey Allen and sophomore Charlie Toczylowski. Toczylowski, a product of Arlington High and Choate, was second high scorer with the freshmen.

Dowling On Defense

Captain Steve Dowling leads the defense, and junior George McPhee has beaten out veteran senior Jeff Cohen for the goalie position.

B.C. frequently sells out the 4,000 seats of McHugh Forum, and tickets for tonight's game are impossible to get.

The Harvard J.V. plays the B.C. freshmen in a preliminary contest at 6:15. The Crimson freshmen are away at Exeter this afternoon.
