Harvard Rattles Engineer Blades In 19-8 Triumph

The Harvard fencing team stabbed back at M.I.T. for a decisive 19-8 victory at the IAB last night.

A strong saber team and outstanding individual performances in epee redeemed the fencers for last Saturday's fiasco against S.M.T.I.

The foil team, which last week resembled the three mouseketeers demonstrated how one bad showing and three days of practice can do wonders.

Cliff Ruderman, 2-5, 5-3, and Art Weissman, 5-4, both showed great improvement over Saturday. Ruderman seemed possessed with diabolically aggressive energy, unfortunately unaccompanied by control of his point.

The sabers came one bout short of shutting out the opponents. Bob Barnard, 5-4, 5-3, Ron Winfield, 5-3, 5-2, Bill Banchs, 5-4, 5-3, and John Gersh, 5-4, 3-5, all earned tickets to CCNY next week.

Epee had an uneven showing. Steve Amerikaner had a nervous night and an unbearable third bout, fencing with his opponent by telstar satellite.

Harry Jergeson, after two fine wins of 5-1, 5-0, avenged Amerikaner in his third bout by taking a rapid, merciless 5-0 decision.

The greatly improved team should have a lively match as it goes for its fourth straight win over City College of New York when they fence next Saturday in Fun City.
