HUC Committee Will Re-evaluate Aims, Structure

The Harvard Undergraduate Council formed a six-man committee last night to set clear-cut goals and suggest structural reforms for the HUC.

"We need a small committee composed of big people to discuss whether HUC will be concerned with keeping eggs warm in the dining hall or ending the war in Vietnam," said HUC member Donald M. Bedwick '68, who suggested the committee on goals.

HUC members complained that they had been bypassed in the formation of the Student-Faculty Advisory Committee after the Dow demonstration. "It is clear that we no longer--if anyone ever did--know the goals we want for HUC, especially after the events of the past month," Berwick said.

The present constitution treats the HUC's function only by stating that it is "to express undergraduate opinion before the College's administrative bodies."

However, Daniel B. Magraw Jr. '68, chairman of the HUC, said that the Faculty and the Administration now view the HUC with "absolutely no respect."

The Committee will also consider changing the election procedure for HUC members. The HUC is currently composed of the chairman and one additional member from each House committee and four feshman members selected by the Freshman Council.
