A trace of the Old West has been discovered at ivy-towered Yale University.
The Yale Daily News revealed last week that DKE, a fraternity, used a red hot iron to "brand" its new members during the club's initiation rites. The brand burned a one-half inch delta, the symbol of DKE, into each new member's back.
The News' charges of "degrading, sadistic, and obscene" practices met a stormy reaction from fraternity members. "Most people in the fraternities really love initiations, a Yale source explained.
