Winthrop Romps To Touch Crown

Winthrop House sewed up the touch football championship yesterday by beating Quincy, 33-19, and Dudley, 53-38, in a chaotic doubleheader.

The Puritans had little trouble defeating Quincy in the first game. But the Dudley team, surprisingly strong in spite of a 1-7 record, gave Winthrop a scare with a potent passing attack. The Duds' 38 points were the most scored against the Puritans all year.

Winthrop surged from a ninth-place finish last season to this year's House title without a loss. Their prolific offense ran up a total of 317 points in eight games behind the arm of captain-quarterback Fritz Hobbs.

Dunster and Lowell tied for second place behind Winthrop with 6-2 records. Quincy (5-3) placed third, and Leverett (4-4) came in fourth.

The Puritans will play the Yale touch football champions at New Haven on Friday.
