8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Two of the College's veteran Masters are retiring after the Spring semester, President Pusey has announced.
John H. Finley '25 will retire as Master of Eliot House after 26 years, and Reuben A. Brower will retire as Master of Adams House after 14 years. Both will continue to teach on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Pusey said he has not yet found successors for either of the Masters. Pusey is also searching for two other House Masters--one as a temporary replacement for Bruce Chalmers, Master of Winthrop House, who is taking a leave of absence, and one as the permanent Master of Mather, the tenth House.
At the same time, Pusey must find new deans for the Design School, the Law School, and the Dental School, and a new Assistant to the President for Development.
The last Master to retire was John M. Bullitt, professor of English, who retired in 1965 as Master of Quincy House at the age of 44.
