Four-Way Tie Is Still a Possibility In Ivy Football

Practically speaking, the Ivy football race is all over for Harvard. But there's still a ghost of a chance that the Crimson can sneak through the back door into a four-way tie for the League title.

Princeton (4-1) would have to beat Yale (5-0) this week. Dartmouth (4-1) would have to lose to Cornell (2-2-1), then win at Princeton in two weeks. And Harvard (3-2) would have to win two in a row, against Brown (0-4-1) and Yale.

Princeton could easily topple the league-leading Elis at New Haven Saturday. The Tigers will be riding high following last week's 45-6 slaughter of Harvard and looking for another upset.

Dartmouth has been unimpressive two weeks in a row, trounced by Yale and eking out an unconvincing 13-7 win over Columbia. Cornell, strong in spite of its medicore record, just might win.

Harvard will be favored against the Bruins in Providence, though Coach John Yovicsin is worried after being shellacked by the Tigers. Brown showed better than Harvard losing to Princeton, 48-12, two weeks ago and tied Cornell Saturday, 14-14. But Harvard should win easily.

It's too early to close the door on the Ivy League race. Amazing things happen in the Ivies. Games that rate as toss-ups turn out to be 45-6 romps.
