Yale College Changes 'Coats and Ties' Rule

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yale men need no longer wear coats and ties in order to eat in College dining halls.

Since Saturday undergraduates have needed only to present "a reasonably neat appearance." The ruling by the Council of Masters of Yale's 12 residential colleges reveses their 1957 decision requiring coats and ties.

In effect, the change has hardly been visible because in most Yale colleges dress rules have not been enforced for several years. "It's a de facto, rather than a de jure, decision," said one Yale student.

Each college is now allowed to determine, its own standards.
