John Purdy's three-under-par 69 led Kirkland House to victory in the House golf tournament and vaulted it into the early lead for the Straus Cup.
One stroke off the pace was Leverett's Bill Daly. Third place went to Yank Heisler of Kirkland, who shot a 74.
The victory brought Kirkland 25 points in the Straus competition, five more than second-place finisher Leverett. Kirkland was assured the Cup lead with the 20 points it garnered for a second-place finish in last Thursday's cross-country run.
Lowell House, which netted the victor's share of 25 points for its running prowess, is second overall with 39 points.
Scores for the golf tournament, which was held a the Stow Country Club in Stow, Mass., were exceptionally good considering poor conditions and a tough course.
