Yardling Booters Beat Dartmouth, Stay Undefeated

The Harvard freshman soccer team struck early with goals by Solomon Gomez and Peter Bogovich, then hung on to slip by Dartmouth 2-1, yesterday at home.

Harvard's first score came at 14:19 of the first period, when Gomez headed a bounding ball over the surprised Dartmouth goalie. The second goal came seven minutes later, when Bogovich rammed a Gomez pass into the lower left-hand corner of the nets.

The lone Dartmouth goal was scored midway through the second period, when center forward Randy Quayle broke free from a scramble in front of the net and booted a low shot past sprawling goalie Bill Meyers.

Take Control

The Crimson took control in the second half, but a tenacious Dartmouth defense and bad luck held them scoreless. The few drives which the opposition mounted were turned aside by the strong play of fullbacks Bill Brock and Ron McClain, and goalie Meyers.

Coach Dana Getchell blamed the low score on Dartmouth's defensive style of play. "Dartmouth thinks, 'If we don't let Harvard score, they can't win.' I play to score, not defend," he said.
