Heisuke Hironaka has been appointed Professor of Mathematics at Harvard, as of July 1, 1968.

The Mathematics Department has not yet decided Hironaka's specific teaching duties here. Andrew M. Gleason, Chairman of the Department, said yesterday.

He received an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship in 1962, and a Research Corporation Award in 1963.
