Quincy Romps In Football, Leads In House Standings

Yesterday's House football games re-shuffled the standings, giving Quincy undisputed possession of first place.

The Orangemen's 12-0 victory over Kirkland left them with an unblemished 3-0 record. Leverett, the only other undefeated team, was idle, dropping to second with a record of 2-0.

Two previously undefeated teams, Winthrop and Adams, were both tied and are now deadlocked for third in the standings. Eliot House, winless so far, tied Adams, and Dunster, also without a win to date, stalemated Winthrop. In a battle for the cellar Lowell defeated Dudley 8-6.

Death-Dealing Defense

The Quincy Orangemen rolled up a 12-0 lead in the first half against Kirkland behind a balanced attack led by halfback Joe Tibbetts. The Quincy defense stopped Kirkland dead throughout the game, including a four play goal line stand, and enabled the team to coast to its third straight victory. So far this season the Orange defense has held its opponents scoreless while the offense has piled up 24 points.

The defense was the key in both of the scoreless ties played yesterday. Twice the Eliot House defense held Adams on the goal line, while Adams was able to come up with crucial interceptions, killing the Elephant passing game.

Front Foils

The Dunster defense held the strong running Winthrop Puritans scoreless and preserved a tie in the other 0-0 game yesterday. The Puritan single wing attack led by John Fitzgerald penetrated deep into Dunster territory on several occasions. But each time a tough Dunster front line foiled Winthrop near the goal line and secured the tie.

In the most exciting game of the day, Lowell defeated a ten man Dudley team 8-6 and pulled itself out of the cellar into fifth place. Dudley scored first when a ball stolen from the arms of a Lowell back and two laterals put six points on the board for their outnumbered team. Lowell found revenge in the second half as Tony Hicks, their workhorse fullback, reached the goal line on a 12 yard run. Going for the crucial extra points. Hicks cut off tackle to give Lowell an 8-6 win, its first of the year.

The undefeated titans, Quincy and Lowell, will now meet on October 30 to decide first place.
