Perennial champion Leverett opened the House football season Wednesday with a comeback 8-6 win over Kirkland. Bunny back Chris Mortenson scored a touchdown and an extra two points on a hotly protested call to salvage the victory.
A long pass from Mike Gannon to Randy Sebastian gave Kirkland a 6-0 first-half lead.
With less than four minutes remaining, Leverett recovered a fumble on the Animal 4. and three plays later Mortenson tied the score.
The senior was stopped near the goal line on the conversion, and despite the vehement objections of Kirkland manager Bob Keefe the referee signalled the score.
In other action. Winthrop crushed Lowell, 16-0. The Puritans defense didn't allow a first down and Jack Fitzgerald supplied all the scoring.
Dunster stopped two Quincy drives inside its own three, but the one that got through was enough for a 6-0 Quincy triumph.
In a battle of cellar-people, Adams shut out Dudley, 16-0.
