Football Coaches Honor Diamond

The New England College Football Coaches Association yesterday named Steve Diamond '67 New England's Offensive Lineman of the year.

Diamond holds three Harvard football letters and earned Coaches' All-Ivy recognition as a junior and a senior. He received All-East honors this fall.

The NECFCA honor is the result of a vote by 32 head coaches representing the opinions of another 153 assistant coaches from 33 colleges throughout New England.

"Steve is one of the best offensive tackles to play for Harvard during my 10 years here," Coach John Yovicsin commented yesterday. "His leadership and fine play formed the backbone of the offensive line. He had a great season."

The awards were given separately for large and small schools. Other winners in the large school category were: John Huard of the University of Maine, Defensive Lineman of the year; Mickey Beard of Dartmouth, Offensive Back; and Wynn Mabry, also of Dartmouth, Defensive Back.

This is the first year the awards have been given.
