Amherst Racquetmen Test Undefeated Varsity Today

Competition stiffens a little today for the Harvard tennis team, but hardly enough to send the Crimson quivering to the net posts.

After skunking Army and M.I.T. by 9-0 margins, the varsity might consider any opponent as more competition. Amherst, which also blanked M.I.T. 9-0, is by no means a pushover, especially after completing a Florida tour which included 17 matches. The match will be played at Amherst.

With only four returning lettermen, Amherst coach Ed Serues has been relying on his sophomores to a considerable extent. Apparently the Southern trip strengthened the inexperienced players. Sophomores Dan Warner and Bob Duss have been performing well for Jeffs, along with Captain Peter Alcaly and senior Sandy Meiklejohn.

Alcaly, a three-year veteran, will face Harvard captain Dave Benjamin in the one match. Benjamin topped sophomore teammate Bernie Adelsberg yesterday in a long two-set test match for the team's number one position.

Behind Adelsberg at Amherst today will be Clive Kileff, Richie Friedman, Dick Appleby, Brian Davis, Bo Jones, Todd Wilkinson, and Dave Hodges.

Harvard coach Jack Barnaby will probably be experimenting with doubles combinations today. Doubles, always Harvard's strongest point, is Amherst's weakness this year. According to Serues, the strong doubles teams from last season have graduated, and the Jeffs' doubles must match the singles strength if the team expects a successful season.

Corey Wynn's deep freshman team also travels to Amherst today in quest of its second win of the season.
