Harvard Junior Killed by Train In South Station

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Samuel G. Wales '67, of Adams House and New York City, was killed early Saturday morning when he fell under a moving train in South Station. He was 20 years old.

His father, Wellington Wales, a member of the editorial board of the New York Times, died of a heart attack yesterday, apparently because of the news of his son's death.

Police said last night the younger Wales may have been running to catch a train when he slipped and fell under the wheels of the moving train.

No Witnesses

There were no witnesses to the accident. The body was discovered by the engineer of a second train which was coming into the station.

Wales, an advanced standing junior, majored in Chemistry. He graduated from the Groton School. At Harvard, he worked for PBH, teaching guitar to children in a settlement house.

Funeral arrangements for the father and son were incomplete as of last night. It had been expected that the younger Wales' funeral would be in New York, with a Cambridge service unlikely.

Surviving are his widow, the former Helen Woolsey, and two other children, Heathcote W. and Jane M. Wales.
