The Harvard Water Polo Club lost its first match of the year to Queens College of New York 7-6 Saturday to extend its losing streak to six.
Four goals by freshman, Jan Rus, high-school all-America last year, weren't enough to offset a fourth quarter surge by the Queensmen. Harvard had carried a 4-4 tie into the final period.
Swimmer Pete Adams, University record-holder in the 500-yard freestyle, got the other two Crimson goals. Goalie Jim Babcock, a kicking specialist on the football team, had 17 saves.
The club boasts about 25 members, mostly undergraduates, but also includes a few graduate students and faculty members who compete in the non-collegiate matches.
Since the club is not entitled to practice in the Indoor Athletic Building. It scrimmages twice a week at the M.I.T. pool. Six dual matches are scheduled this spring along with the Eastern Tournament at West Point in May.
Freshman John Bragg starts at forward along with Rus and Adams. Swimmers Henry Frey, Dick Smith, Pete Mear, Carlos Daughaday, and Babcock are the other starters.
