After upsetting the top-seeded team in the fourth round of the Easern Knockout Tournament, the Harvard championship undergraduate bridge team was itself promptly eliminated Wednesday night.
The team was knocked out by the number-two seed in the tournament and finished in a tie for seventh place.
The 28-board match had six slams and only six non-game contracts. The contest was scored by international match points which put a premium on making games and slams while de-emphasizing over-tricks.
Harvard's players had the edge on over-tricks but missed a crucial grand slam and five games. Harvard was content to play the 15 trick laydown grand slam in six clubs. Not all of the five missed games, however, can be blamed on the team's underbidding as two were only 25 per cent plays, not worth bidding when scoring by IMPs.
The squad, last year's New England Bridge League Champions and this year's league leaders, consists of Peter Y. Connor '68, Stephen I. Kruskall '67, Mark S. Thompson '68, and Peter M. Winkler '68.
