To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
Locking the gates of the Yard every Friday and Satur-should be halted. For the dubious gain of ridding the Yard of "townies," the policy causes great inconvenience to students attempting to pass through the Yard. What is more, it fosters an unhealhy impression of he University as a hostile fortress seeking to seclude itself from the outside world.
In addition, there is a possibility with which the authorities may not have reckoned--that many persons who freely entered the Yard before the gates were sealed may now be unable to locate the one or two remaining openings. Should any of the deans visit the Yard some weekend eve, they might be confronted with the spectacle of thousands of Cambridge youths wandering helplessly in the Yard in search of an exit.
It is indeed a horrifying prospect. Charles Komanoff '68
