The ECAC Hockey Tournament at Boston Arena over the weekend had even more surprises than expected but in the end it was the number one seeded team, Clarkson, that took the championship.
The Golden Knights from Potsdam, N.Y., were given an unexpected scare by runnerup Brown Friday night, but squeaked to an unconvincing 2-1 win. In Friday's other semi-final, Cornell stunned second-seeded Boston University, 8-1.
Coming on top of a 9-0 clobbering of B.C. earlier in the week, this romp made Cornell the favorite in the finals the following night. But Clarkson, out to earn its best-in-the-East rating, shot down the Ithacans, 6-2.
B.U., which was named to represent the East in the NCAA Tournament along with Clarkson, salvaged third place with a 5-2 victory over Brown.
