HDC Members Vote Not to Vote

Members of the Harvard Dramatic Club voted down a proposal yesterday that would have enabled them to elect one, or possibly two, members of an expanded executive committee. The executive committee selects plays and directors for Loeb mainstage productions.

Yesterday's vote was, in effect, an endorsement of the present system by which the five-man committee itself chooses replacements for its graduating members.

Charles N. Ascheim `66, an outgoing committee member, argued that only three of the five members were needed to block someone's election. "I don't see any reason why you should believe any of us that we picked the right people," Ascheim said.

Timothy S. Mayer `66, the only other senior on the committee defended the present system of elections, adding that he saw no reason to enlarge the committee beyond "plain old common American five."

A substantial majority of the 40 HDC members attending yesterday's meeting voted in support of Mayer's recommendation.

Elections were then held for a new president, recording secretary, and corresponding secretary. Despite a suggestion from the floor that the Harvard Dramatic Club could not have a Radcliffe president, Honor Moore `67 was overwhelmingly elected. Victoria G. Traube `68 was chosen recording secretary and Francine L. Stone `68 corresponding secretary.

On Saturday, the executive committee elected Peter A. Jaszi `68 to succeed Mayer and Ascheim.
