Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
The top four Ivy basketball teams hit the road last weekend to build up their advantages over the League weaklings, and three of the favorites came home with the anticipated pair of victories.
But Princeton didn't.
Harvard's 68-61 upset over the league-leading Tigers threw the title race into a worse scramble than before and left three teams--Columbia, Penn, and Princeton--tied for the top spot with 6-1 records, and Cornell just a notch behind at 5-2.
Harvard and Yale are now tied for fifth place in Ivy standings with 2-5 marks, while Brown's 1-6 records merits seventh place. Hapless Dartmouth, winless in seven outings, holds down the cellar spot.
Neuman Flashes
While Keith Sedlacek and a hustling Crimson defense were stifling Princeton Friday night, Penn's flashy Jeff Neuman was scoring 27 points to lead Penn to a 76-61 victory over Dartmouth at Hanover. Neuman and fellow guard Stan Pawlak, who scored 22 against the Greenies, steered a fast break that undid both Dartmouth and Harvard. Neuman and Pawlak scored 21 and 17 points against the Crimson Saturday night as Penn won 72-64.
Despite losing to Harvard, Princeton maintained a share of the league lead by dropping Dartmouth Saturday, 68-58, behind the outside shooting of guard Don Rodenbach.
Once-beaten Columbia, smarting after an earlier 88-69 loss to Yale at New York, romped over the Elis in New Haven Friday, 102-90, and then whipped Brown in Providence Saturday, 79-56.
Cornell managed to stay in contention for the League title by outgunning Brown, 85-68, and Yale, 87-74.
