Coach Bob Pickett takes the show on the road this weekend as the wrestling teams opens Saturday night in Lancaster, Pa., meeting the grappling Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall. The spotlight will be on sophomores.
Sophomore Danny Naylor (130)--second at last weekend's Coast Guard tournament -- contends with Stan Berlin, an F and M junior transfer. A 28-6 Diplomat stampede over Columbia opened last Saturday with Berlin's 8-0 decision. And Columbia is a good Ivy wrestling school.
Another sophomore, Bob Panoff, debuts as a heavyweight against Phil Corell. Last year Crimson heavyweight Tack Chace had to win the final match to preserve what became a 19-13 Harvard win.
And sophomores Carl Baum (137) and Howie Chatterton (167) will also start against Columbia.
One of the better matches will be Crimson captain Ed Franquemont against Steve Sinatra. Frequemont pulled off a 5-1 decision against Sinatra last year. Other Diplomat veterans will be Jim Clair (160), Bruce Leonard (167), and Dave Lehman (191).
Jeff Grant replaces injured Dave Greuel for Harvard at 177, with Howie Henjyoji (123), Dave Stern (145), Chris Wickens (167), and Paul Padlak (191) rounding out the first act.
