Eliot Booters Lead League

Dunster House sprung an upset victory over Lowell last week and left the undefeated Elephants of Eliot House sitting atop the roost in House soccer.

Until Dunster's 3-1 win, Eliot and previously unbeaten Lowell appeared headed for another showdown on the last day of the season. Last year Lowell bumped off Eliot in the final playoff game, 1-0, and made the Elephants thirst for revenge.

Eliot (3-0), even with the knowledge that there were no playoffs at the end of the season, started slowly this year by tying Winthrop with a penalty kick in the last three minutes.

Winthrop (2-3) protested after the game that the referee should have awarded Eliot an indirect kick since the Winthrop defender who touched the ball with his hand had been standing outside the penalty area. Winthrop thus may take on the role of spoiler as the last four minutes of the protested game will be replayed with Eliot trailing, 1-0.

Kirkland House next fell to an Eliot team that must have brought along a horseshoe. The Deacons goalie deflected the deciding goal into the net in the last minutes on a ball that had been shot from the endline. The K-House booters still have a chance for the undisputed league title if both Lowell and Dunster can overcome Eliot.

Goodbye Straus

Thoughts of the Straus Trophy went through players minds when the Leverett Bunnies squared off against Eliot. The Elephants prevailed, 3-0, and sent the Bunnies into their current tailspin in which they've lost three straight.

The hard luck story of the season, however, belongs to Dudley House, perennial doormats. The "Duds" have shown some life this fall -- that is when they've been able to field the necessary 11 booters. The Commuters have forfeited three games for lack of men but when they've played, they've been beautiful, upsetting both Kirkland, 3-0, and Dunster, 2-1.
