Harvard's Version of Tony Bennett Records Disc for February Release

A singing, song-writing Quincy House senior will release his first record February 1 on the Dot label. Brian Foley writes blues, rock 'n roll, and folk-rock. He sounds strikingly like Pat Boone.

His first single will include only one of his own songs, "Hello and Goodbye," and a 1920 tune, "After Midnight."

Mills Music Company which has signed Foley to a six-month contract, has also bought his Dylanesque "I'll Go My Way." Mills will buy and market at least four more Foley songs. He has written over 30 in the last fourteen months.

"I don't want to be a rock and roll singer, but I do like Dylan's earlier stuff for the poetry of it," Foley remarked.

"I'd like to sing the kind of things that Tony Bennett does. A sincere style like his is important."

Although his folk-rock style seems to have the attention of his music publisher, Foley prefers to write other kinds of music.

"I think folk-rock is being overdone," he said. "I'd rather sound like Pat Boone than like Sonny Bono."
