Grossman, Beethoven Share Laurels

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Orin Grossman '67 of Dudley House and Cambridge, last night won the annual Concerto Contest with his recital of Beethoven's fourth piano concerto.

The most important competition for Harvard undergraduate musicians, the contest is sponsored by the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.

The contest attracted more than the usual attention this year, because last year the judges refused to choose a winner on the grounds that none of the contestants was good enough.

Mrs. Louise Vosgerchion, Lecturer on Music and a judge at last night's contest, said that although there were fewer entries this year than last, the quality promised to be higher. "I am going to have a hard time deciding," she said. "They are all good musicians."

However, once Grossman had played, the outcome of the contest seemed certain. He will now perform Beethoven's Fourth with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra in March.

The competition was judged by Mrs. Vosgerchion, a pianist, Robert Roff, a violinist on the Brandeis faculty, and James Jannatos, the conductor of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.
