Anthony Gets Post As Asst. Sec. of Defense

Robert N. Anthony, Ross Graham Walker Professor of Management Controls, has been named an assistant secretary of defense, the White House announced this week. He will take a two-year leave of absence from Harvard beginning September 1.

Anthony will succeed Charles J. Hitch as comptroller of the Defense Department. Hitch has served as comptroller since January 1961.

A teacher at the Harvard Business School since 1946, Anthony became a full professor of Business Administration in 1956. He currently has been teaching a course on "Management Control Systems."

Anthony has served as a consultant to the Defense Department, the Air Force, the Navy, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as a number of industrial companies, trade associations, and management consulting firms.
