Rocking Teen Fans See CRIMSON Batter WMEX

The score stood two apiece for eight innings, but CRIMSON batsmen in the top of the ninth yesterday, bombed WMEX hurler Larry Justice the tune of 21 runs. Until that ninth it looked like a gruelling duel that would go right down to the proverbial wire.

The CRIMSON drew first blood in the first with back-to-back homers by Andre ("The Barber") Swettham and Annie Buxton. The Good Guys came right back on a single and a walk driven in by a long double from the redoubtable stick of Tiger Dan Donovan. Then all three pitchers (the CRIMSON unveiled its deadly platoon system, alternating between southpaw Rick Hertzberg and northpaw Jake Brackman) settled down to business.

For the next seven innings bingles were hard to come by. Crimson batters couldn't get hold of Justice's slow, spinning bloopers, and the Good Guys went down looking as Brackman and Hertzberg rifled 'em down the pipe, fanning a total of 14 between them. Lee Simowitz's head-over-heels circus catch in the sixth robbed WMEX of its only shot out of the infield.

600 screaming teenagers never knew what happened to their Dee-Jay heroes in the ninth. Sparked by Richard ("King") Cotton, and Ooge Ujifusa, Harvard's nine batted around four times in the heaviest shelling this year east of Hanoi. Demoralized, the Good Guys popped up on three straight pitches in the in the bottom of the ninth and went down 23 to 2. Pre-game odds had made WMEX 7-5 favorites.

The game was played for the benefit of the JFK memorial library fund. Spokesmen estimated the proceeds at $10.66.
