Rampaging Crimson Baseball Team Obliterates Hapless Engineers, 11-0

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard's rejuvenated baseball team pounded out 15 hits and ripped apart M.I.T., 11 to 0, yesterday at Splinter Stadium.

Southpaw starter Larry Melfa and reliefer Paul Thornton combined to give the Crimson its first shutout of the 1965 season. Melfa, who has taken his lumps in prior appearances on the mound, was razor-sharp yesterday. In seven innings he yielded seven hits, struck out eight batters, and walked none. Thornton entered the game in the eighth inning and put on the finishing touches.

The outcome of the contest was never in doubt. Harvard scored a run in the first, and in the second inning made its lead a comfortable 3-0 on singles by George Neville, Gary Miller, and Neal Houston. The Crimson tallied three more in the third and three in the fourth.

Neville Hits Hard

George Neville was Harvard's leading hitter of the day with three for four. Neil Houston and Damn Hootstein both collected two hits, and Skip Falcone belted the only home run of the afternoon.
