'Tartuffe' To Be Produced In Hum Four

Moliere's Tartuffe, directed by George Hamlin, will be produced next winter at the York University Theatre in Toronto, Canada, after its December run at the Loeb.

The play will be produced in conjunction with Humanities 4, a lower-level General Education course in which Daniel Seltzer, associate director of the Loeb, will be the fall-term lecturer.

The play is expected to be one of several put on at York's new theatre. It will be the first production in Canada of Richard Wilbur's translation of Tartuffe.

The Committee on Educational Policy has decided to admit some 20 upperclassmen who have already taken a Gen Ed course to Hum 4, even if the course they book was Hum 8, a survey of dramatic taught by Seltzer and William Alfred, professor of English, until two years ago.

Seltzer outlined more of the details of the course in a letter sent last week to members of the dramatic community.

"Certain scenes will be double (and ) cast, with performances staged in the Experimental Theatre at various points during the term," Seltzer said.

First Credit Play

Hum 4 will be the first Harvard course to give credit for work on the production of a play. "It is hoped that the play can be cast, an dits technical and designing staff drawn, from course membership."

Siltzer has also announced that he plans to sponsor an informal noncredit seminar on dramatic criticism, to be held at the Loeb next fall.

"I think it should be limited to ten people, he said, "and I think it should bring together people who write reviews in the CRIMSON or elsewhere with members of the dramatic community and more less disinterested people."
