'Traveler' Cites YR Draft Report

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

As editorial in the Boston Traveler yesterday praised the Harvard Young Republican Club's proposal that men not drafted into military service pay a special tax to equalize the burden of the draft.

"That seems no more than fair," the editorial said, citing the HYRC's Monday report. "The man who does not contribute his service stint to national security should be willing to contribute payment of some sort."

John Evans '67, an HYRC spokesman who helped write the special report, was pleased by the editorial. "I'm delighted that our report is being given such attention," he said yesterday. "We're following up the report to see if there is anything more we can do."

The HYRC gave a copy of the report to Samuel P. Huntington, professor of Government. He is a member of the Defense Department committee studying the draft and will distribute the report at the Pentagon.
