Amherst Falls To Rugby Club, 9-0

The Harvard Rubgy Club shut out traditionally strong Amherst 9-0 here Saturday, and the Crimson second team made it a sweep by stopping the Jeffs 6-3.

Captain Gage McAfee scored Harvard's first three-point try early in the first half on a pass from Andy Schaeffer. After Pitt Marshall added another try later in the first half on a break through center, Lloyd MacDonald scored Harvard's third and final try on a reverse late in the game.

Harvard missed the two-point conversions after all three scores. In rugby, a conversion must be kicked from a point on the field opposite to where the ball is touched down in the end zone when a try is scored. Since all three Harvard tries were touched down in the corners of the end zone, the conversion attempts were made at difficult angles to the goal posts.

Conn Nugent and Bill Carlson scored tries for Harvard in the second team's victory. The first team, whose record for the spring now stands at 1-1, next meets the Boston Rugby Club here on Saturday.
