Combining forces in Annapolis Saturday after its toughest Southern trip ever, the Crimson tennis team whitewashed Navy, 17-0, to open its Eastern Intercollegiate league season.
Navy, hurting from inexperience and injuries, could not muster a victory in any of the twelve singles and five doubles matches. Harvard also was not at full strength, Number one player Dave Benjamin, whose back bothered him all through the Southern tour, did not play, Chum Steele (four) arrived from the Carib-Hilton Tournament too late for the singles, but won in doubles with partner Clive Kileff.
Harvard's "spring training" matches were a different story. In the past, Harvard has been able to split its team into two equally strong units and still manage As it was, Georgia and tech both downed "varsity II," 3-1, and "varsity I," 9-0.
