Jon Chaffee grabbed 10th place in the cross-country and Steve Blodgett took the 15th spot in the slalom last week as they represented Harvard at the NCAA Skiing Championships at Crystal Mountain, Washington.

Chaffee's showing, hampered somewhat by equipment problems, was considered excellent in view of the stiff competition--the top finishers in most of the events were members of the U.S. Olympic team. Blodgett finished third in the slalom among the Eastern skiers, and took 23rd overall in the downhill.

Dartmouth won the cross-country, although individual honors went to Mike Eliot of Fort Lewis College. The Green finished fourth in the overall team standings behind Denver, Utah, and Western State.

Denver's Rick Chaffee won the slalom. He is Jon's cousin and brother of Kim Chaffee, captain of last year's Harvard Ski team. The downhill title went to Bill Marolt of Colorado.
