Members of both Adams House and Winthrop House have expressed interest in buying WHBS, the Business School's unsuccessful venture into radio broadcasting.
A petition, asking that the Adams House Committee consider purchasing the radio equipment for not more than $350, gathered over 70 signatures last night.
Franklin B. Velie '65, outgoing House Committee chairman, emphasized that the petition was entirely unofficial, but that a group of "Adams House radio experts" will inspect the WHBS set-up and make specific recommendations to the new House Committee, which takes office next week.
Velie said that Adams House will enter a bid only if it is not a binding contract. He emphasized that he felt a lame duck House Committee should not make any major commitments.
In Winthrop, however, the situation is somewhat different. Nicholas P. Bollman '67 and Dean J. Bauer '67 hope to get together a group of about 20, buy the radio station, and run it for the Business School. "We just don't know how much the changeover from the Business School to Winthrop would cost," Bauer said, "and we would just like to operate a radio station."
WHBS ceased operations three years ago after a survey showed that almost no one listened to it. Audiences for WLHR have been equally small. Both Adams and Winthrop radio enthusiasts are aware of these facts, but still want to play records.
