Justice For Kirkland: 15 Deconverted Suites

Kirkland House will deconvert fifteen additional suites this fall, a change called "justice in the long run," by Master Charles H. Taylor.

The additional deconversions will allow thirty-five to forty more students to enjoy a deconverted suite. Most of the fifteen new deconversions will house either two or four men each.

Bad Physical Layout

Taylor said that the incoming class at Kirkland House will be smaller than past classes to account for the additional deconversions. No change will be made in the number of students living off campus or taking leaves of absence.

Previously Kirkland has been "very disadvantaged" in the matter of crowding because of the physical layout of the House, Taylor explained. With an overabundance of two-bedroom suites, deconversions are mostly doubles. They therefore do not accommodate as many students as deconversions in other Houses with larger units.

All juniors requesting the privilege have been assigned to deconverted suites. About forty sophomores won deconversions in a lottery held during the last week.
