A revitalized Crimson fencing squad will open the second half of its season when it faces M.I.T. tonight at 7 p.m. in the LAB. In an earlier meeting the fencers trounced the Engineers 22-5.
After today's encounter the swordsmen will face three opponents on the road. Penn will host them this Saturday and should provide stiff opposition, since the Quakers have beaten strong N.Y.U. and Navy teams.
The following weekend the fencers travel to New Jersey, where they will battle Rutgers and Princeton on consecutive days. Princeton, which has an especially strong sabre team, beat Penn, so it should provide a difficult contest. Though Rutgers is strong in epee, the Crimson ought to win that meet.
Epee is looking like a more promising weapon for Harvard in this half of the season. Paul Winig, who fenced last year, has rejoined the team, and Rich Kolombasevich is becoming more proficient in epee, after he switched from foil last semester.
Kolembatovich, along with Jon Kolb in sabre and Dave Dooley in foll, went undefeated in January in the New England AFLA three-weapon team tournament.
