Vice-President Hubert H. Humphrey will discuss "why the government must tell the truth to the people" at the dedication of the Edward R. Murrow Center for Public Diplomacy at Tufts University today.
Humphrey will probably veer from his printed text and talk about Vietnam something he has done in his last three speeches, according to William H. Wells director of public relations at Tufts.
The Greater Boston Coordinating Committee to End the War in Vietnam will picket Humphrey's speech. Sixteen organizations, including the May 2nd Movement. Students for a Democratic Society, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Young Socialist Alliance, will participate.
Paul R. DeRensis '66 and Brian J. H. Lederer '67, leaders of the Harvard-Radcliffe November 9th Committee will present a petition in support of President Johnson's Vietnam policy to Humphrey when he arrives at Logan Airport at noon today.
Signed by over 1300 Harvard undergraduates the petition supports American military presence in Vietnam and the President's call for unconditional negotiations. It disassociates the signers of the petition from "that vocal minority which, distrusting American intentions seeks to obstruct and misrepresent American policy."
The public may attend the 2:05 p.m. speech at Tuft's Cousens Gymnasium.
