Conant, Halperin Back U.S. Vietnam Policies

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

One hundred eighteen national figures, including James B. Conant '14. President emeritus, and Morton H. Halperin, assistant professor of Government, have endorsed a statement asking that Americans demonstrate their support of the United States commitment in Vietnam.

The statement appeared as a full-page advertisement in Sunday's New York Times. It was placed by Freedom House, a non-profit educational foundation.

The text describes those who oppose the government's Vietnam policy as a small segment of our population which has the right to be heard, but whose presence demands that the majority express clearly its support of the government's purposes.

Stressing that the debate over Vietnam has significant international repercussions, the statement asks that those who agree with government policies take part in local discussions, inform Congressmen of their stand, and sign and circulate a resolution affirming their support.
