Skaters Face Ex-Collegians

Three games of trigger-happy shifting by Coach Cooney Weiland produced a combination of sophomores and lettermen that blasted Bowdoin, 9-2, last Wednesday. With a winning combination at least temporarily set, tonight's 8 p.m. encounter with the St. Nicholas Hockey Club will be a final warmup before the Crimson confronts the biggest hockey powers in the Northeast.

Not that St. Nicholas will be a push over. Last year the New Yorkers stunned Harvard, 3-1, in the season opener and will be returning with basically the same team tonight at the Watson Rink.

The ex-collegians will have Barry Van Gerbig, Princeton's All-American goalie of 1961, in the nets and the likes of Princeton's John Cook, all-Ivy in '63, and Yale's Pat Roulon-Miller on the line. Harvard's contribution to the team is Bill Lamarche '64, a three season varsity standout.

But the Nicks have already dropped three games this year: to Yale, 5-2, to Providence College, 8-6, and to Ivy champ Brown, 6-3. A loss tonight would spell trouble in Harvard's upcoming games with Northeastern, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, and Brown. But the Crimson skaters are still fighting for their positions and should win with an all-out effort.
