Air Fare Slash Won't Hurt HSA

Harvard Student Agencies' Charter Flight Program will not be threatened by American Airlines' proposed fare reduction," said Charter Flight Manager John Turner '66 yesterday. He described the proposal as "a great thing for the airlines, and a great thing for students."

The proposal, which would offer a fifty per cent reduction in the cost of tickets to anyone between the ages of twelve and twenty-two, has yet to receive approval from the Civil Aeronautics Board, but its passage is felt to be certain. Thomas Lyons, Boston Director of Public Relations for American Airlines, predicted yesterday that other domestic airlines will also adopt the reduction.

Turner pointed out that American's proposal would not be effective from December 15-21, the Thursday before Easter, and the Wednesday before and Sunday following Thanksgiving would also be excluded. Thus, said Turner, there would be little effect on HSA's regular term-time flights. He added that at present there is little demand for a Harvard flight in either June or September, times that would be affected by the proposal.

Lyons added that the HSA summer charter flights to Europe would also not be affected by American's proposal because the rate reductions would not be extended to European travel.
