All but one of the six Cambridge school committee incumbents appeared assured of re-election in a preliminary, unofficial count of votes by election officials.
The tally showed the six incumbents in the first six positions. None of them, however, attained the anticipated quota of 4381, closest was James F. Fitzgerald, with 4076 "number one" votes.
The remaining incumbents polled the following tota's of "number one" votes: Gustave M. Solomons, 3733: Mrs. Barbara Ackerman, 3604: Edward M. McMahon, 3472: Francis H. Duehay '55, 3335; and George F. Olesen, Jr., 2937.
Only seven votes behind Olesen, however, was Daniel J. Clinton.
The Election Commission will now validate the unofficial count, and then eliminate all candidates who polled less than 500 "number one" votes. These in turn will be redistributed to candidates in the number two osition on each ballot.
There were no new results in the race for City Council. The Election Commission spent yesterday validating the first unofficial count.. There will probably be no new results before Saturday.
