Defensive back Dave Poe, who last week won Harvard's most valuable player award, has been named to three Associated Press all-star teams. Tackle Steve Diamond and halfback Bobby Leo, both juniors, have also gained significant post-season honors.
Poe, who led the Crimson with five interceptions this season, was selected for first-team honors on the All-East defensive team. He was one of five Ivy Leaguers named to that team. Diamond, elected to the second-team offense, was the only other Crimson player to gain an All-East berth.
Both Poe and Diamond were named to the All-New England first team. Diamond was one of two juniors named to the first-team offensive line.
Leo also gained a first-team position. The team's leading scorer was named to the offensive backfield on the All-Ivy team. Poe and Diamond were chosen for first-team positions on the All-Ivy team.
Seven Crimson lettermen received honorable mention awards on the All-Ivy squad. Offensive players were seniors Roger Noback at guard and Wally Grant at halfback.
Defensive players receiving honorable mention were end Ken Boyds, tackle Dave Davis, linebackers Jim Driscoll and Dick Hudak, and halfbacks John Dockery and Bill Cobb.
The Ivy League again made the news yesterday when Princeton's kicking specialist Charlie Gogolak was named a first-round draft choice by the Washington Redskins. No Ivy League player has been a first-round choice since the Philadelphia Eagles selected Chuck Bednarik in 1948. Gogolak has said he plans to make pro football his career.
Neither the United Press International nor the coaches' all-star teams have been released yet. Each college coach must submit his ballot by Tuesday; the coaches' team will probably be named later this week.
