Kirchner Named To Music Chair

Composer Leon Kirchner will become the next Walter Bigelow Professor of Music on January 1. He succeeds Randall Thompson '20, who retired from teaching this summer.

Kirchner, who joined the Faculty as professor of music in 1961, teaches Music 268r., a seminar in composition; Music 218, Studies in 19th Century Music; and several graduate courses. Among his compositions are Concertos for Viola, Cello, Woodwinds and Percussion, and two piano concertos. He is currently working on an opera commissioned by the Fromm Foundation.
