J.V. Football Beats Tufts On First Half Touchdowns

The Harvard J.V. football team scored in each of the first two quarters and then held Tufts off for a 13-6 victory at Medford yesterday.

After a long drive sparked by the running of Marshall Goldberg, Tony Hicks cracked over from the two for the Crimson's first score. In the next quarter, Dave Brick burst off tackle for six yards and another touchdown, also following a long drive.

John Beaulieu kicked one extra point, but a bad pass from center scotched his attempt for the second conversion. The Tufts score came in the third quarter.

Coach Norm Shepard praised the play of defensive backs Ric Zimmerman and Dick Manchester, linebacker Bob Stack, and defensive tackle Jim Hughes. He also said he was pleased with quarterbacks Pete Berg and Bobby Keefe and end Carter Lord.

Lord, a top prospect for the varsity after starring for the freshman team last year, missed most of the pre-season practice with an injury.

"It was a typical opening J.V. game," said Shepard, "though a little rough in spots."

The J.V.'s next game will be with Columbia on Saturday in Cambridge.
