Freshman Dean Bans Parties This Weekend

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A wild, drunken party and a series of disorderly incidents in the Yard last Saturday have caused the Freshman Dean's Office to ban all parties and parietal extensions in Freshman dormitories this weekend.

Dean Von Stade disclosed yesterday that a Saturday night party in Weld South, with "a lot of noise, a lot of drinking, and a lot of horsing around, had gotten out of hand." In a separate incident, he added, a teenage girl from Cambridge had passed out in the Yard, and was hospitalized at Stillman Infirmary overnight.

Reliable University sources said yesterday that the girl--who is fifteen years old--consumed 5 drinks in 20 minutes at a party somewhere in the Yard. She staggered from the party with her girlfriend, and collapsed.

Girl Unconscious

A proctor found her unconscious and vomiting, and took her to Stillman Infirmary. There her stomach was pumped, and she was admitted for the night, suffering from extreme intoxication. She regained consciousness in the emergency room.

The girl's parents, who had instructed her to remain home that evening, were called, and came to the infirmary. The sources stressed that there was no question of the girl having been attacked.

Party Rowdy

As the evening progressed, a party on two floors of Weld Hall grew more and more rowdy. A number of local teenagers, both boys and girls, entered the party uninvited and without signing in Many of the party's participants grew drunk; some became ill. Eventually a proctor, with the help of three University policemen, attempted to eject some of the local boys, and a fight ensued.

Local Youths

Von Stade blamed the disturbances on the influx of Cambridge youths who roam through the Yard on weekends, looking for excitement. He said the suspension of parietals was a preventive measure, to give the Administration time to decide on ways of stopping outsiders from crashing parties.

No Sexual Misbehavior

Von Stade acknowledged that "a handful of students" would be brought before the Administrative Board next Tuesday as a result of the weekend's disturbances. He stated that the University had no knowledge of any sexual misbehavior at the party, and denied a persistant rumor that civil charges had been brought against the University or any students.

Last night all the proctors met to discuss ways of controlling parties, and keeping local youth out of the Yard.
