Two Harvard lightweight crews scored runaway victories yesterday in the Henley Regatta, but the previously unbeaten Crimson junior varsity heavyweights were decisively beaten by a big, strong Lithuanian eight.

The Harvard varsity lightweights won their Thames Challenge Cup heat today, whipping the Mortlake Anglian Boat Club by 3 1/2 lengths, with a 7:12 clocking for the mile, 550 yard event. The Crimson had the situation so well in hand that they eased up their stroke to 28 for the final quarter-mile of the contest. On Wednesday the crew scored an equally easy romp over the National Provincial Bank Crew of London.

Eliot House also chalked up its second straight victory on the Thames with a decisive three-length triumph over University College of Dublin. In the first round of the 125th edition of this rowing classic, Eliot trounced the Staines Boating Club of England in the creditable time of 6:56.

The JV heavyweights' defeat came as no surprise. The oarsmen from the Club Zjalghiris Viljlus, averaging 194 pounds, are favored to win the Henley Grand Challenge Cup, and may represent Russia in the Tokyo Olympics this October. The Lithuanians were timed in 5:30 for the event, equaling the record established by Cornell's heavyweight varsity six years ago.

Phillips Andover Academy and Groton both qualified for the quarter-finals of the Prince Elizabeth Cup for schoolboy eights. Groton won its second-round heat from Eton by three lengths, while Andover easily subdued Cheltenham College.
