Radcliffe Institute Publishes Guide: 'The Next Step'

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Radcliffe institute for Independent Study has published a paperback book, The Next Step, which describes part-time opportunities for educated women in Greater Boston.

While the book is limited to the Boston area, the editors feel the idea can be adapted to other communities. "There are few assumptions," wrote Mary I. Bunting, president of Radcliffe, in the foreword, "more unrealistic, foolish, and wasteful than the assumption that serious study and work in many fields must be full time or not at all.

Work With Study

"Without continuing study, work--whether in the home or outside, whether paid or volunteer--can become trivial. Similarly, without the opportunities for the use of developed skills, study can become superficial."

The book, which sells for $1.50, is divided into three main sections. One decribes education opportunities in the community, one discusses volunteer work, and one employment opportunities. Throughout the book are comments from women, many participants in seminars conducted by the Radcliffe Institute, who have taken on another full or part-time activity.
