Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Harvard's varsity lightweight crew will be going to England in July to compete for the Thames Cup in the Royal Henley Regatta, the second Crimson boat to make the trip. The junior varsity heavyweight crew will be vying for the Grand Challenge Cup at the same time.
The lightweights were second to Cornell in this year's Eastern Sprint championships, and also lost a race by two feet to M.I.T., but captain Jim. MacMahon explained that the boat's practice times seemed to justify the trip. "We think we're good enough to win it," he said.
In 1958, 1959, and 1960 the varsity lightweights won the Thames Cup, although the race is not restricted to lightweight crews. Since then, Cornell and M.I.T. lightweight boats have failed to win; MacMahon said he expected Harvard's to be the only lightweight crew entered.
The varsity lightweights also announced the election of Galen Brewster '65, of 1 Chauncy St. and Brookline, as captain of next year's crew. Brewster has been stroke for the last two years.
